Community Financial Credit Union Summer of SharingWhySee

Community Financial Credit Union has been enhancing the lives of our members and our communities for over 65 years. The word “community” is not only in our name, but it is the core of everything we do. We know that Community Financial would not exist without our members and the communities in which they live.

2020 has been a year of unprecedented firsts. And while many things have changed and our summer activities may not be the same this year, Community Financial remains committed to helping the communities we serve.

10 Years of Sharing!

This year, we’re celebrating 10 Years of Sharing and we’re excited to support 60 great organizations this summer—with your help! Community Financial will donate $60,000 to nonprofit, educational and community organizations* throughout Michigan! That's $1,000 a day every Monday – Friday from June 8, 2020 – August 28, 2020.

Metro Detroit Share Group

Posted By: Angela Winton (June 2, 2020)
Metro Detroit Share is a non-profit dedicated to supporting families who have lost a baby during pregnancy through the first year of life. MDS provides peer-to-peer support meetings, funeral assistance, memory boxes and early pregnancy loss support bags for area hospitals and OB offices, and more recently, Caring Cradles. A Caring Cradle is a device that allows families to spend more time with their baby in the hospital.

Metro Detroit Share has donated 12 Caring Cradles at a cost of $5000 each to Michigan based hospitals. Last year, we also funded 22 nurses/social workers to attend a perinatal bereavement training. Metro Detroit Share is a 100% volunteer group that relies solely on donations. Thank you for your consideration.

Northern Michigan Veterans Coalition

Posted By: Ryan Sanderson (June 2, 2020)
The (NMVC) Northern Michigan Veterans Coalition serves the 11 counties in Northeast Michigan. NMVC helps creates awareness about the needs of and the benefits available to veterans and their families by promoting communication, coordination, and collaboration. NMVC publishes a monthly newsletter to 3,407 Veterans and 156 Community Partners. NMVC Board Members personally assist the Veteran or their families in need of assistance by connecting with the appropriate NMVC Partner (business or organization) to resolve the issue. When all efforts are exhausted, or, the request is unusual, NMVC provides financial funding directly to veterans and their families. In 2019 and 2020 these included: rent and mortgage assistance, utility assistance, gas cards, household goods, furniture, appliance items, clothing, work attire, and vehicle repairs. NMVC hosted 3 (VBF) Veteran Benefit Fairs in 2019 and are scheduled to host one VBF in Gaylord in September 2020.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1518

Posted By: Polly Buchanan (June 1, 2020)
VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Post 1518 in Gaylord, MI is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization representing area veterans and their families and emphasizes improving their quality of life in our community. Encouraging outdoor activities to improve health and wellness is encouraged by our organization.

Last Fall a new covered pavilion with restrooms and electrical power was completed in our Veterans Community Park on Old 27 just north of McCoy Road. We want to offer free outdoor movie nights at the pavilion to encourage healthy family outings, picnics, and other gatherings in our park. To do this we need outdoor theater equipment that includes a projector, screen and sound system. The cost for this equipment is approximately $2000. If our request is granted for $1000, the remaining budget will come from fund raising and or/community sponsors. Free movie nights in our new park will be a unique offering in our community.

Foster Closet of Michigan Western Wayne County

Posted By: Laura Jackson (June 1, 2020)
Many foster children are placed in care with no personal items, only the clothes on their backs.  The families that are selected to care for these children often are in need of basic toiletry items, clothing, and other necessities for the children. The Foster Closet of Michigan - Western Wayne County is a much needed resource for these families.  The Foster Closet provides new or like new clothing, underclothing, toys, shoes, baby equipment and gear for these children and their families. These items help ease the transition into a new home and help the children build their self esteem and reduces the financial burden on the families. A $1,000 donation will help The Foster Closet of Michigan - Western Wayne County buy some new items to replenish the closet.

Do You See Us Now?

When a dear friend of mine was killed in a motorcycle accident, my friend-who happens to be a paramedic, joined forces and in less than a year, created this charitable event to aid victims of distracted driving accidents. Our first year we had over 200 participants and raised over $8000 to help a beautiful family and aid financially a program designed to educate drivers to Look Twice.
We have our 2nd annual charity ride July 25th and we are taking it across the Mackinaw Bridge this year! Bigger and better than the last!!
We would be so honored to be a recipient of the Summer of Caring program and put that donation to excellent use in our communities helping helping out neighbors. Thank you, CFCU!
