Mittens for Detroit

Mittens for Detroit is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that collects, purchases and distributed new mittens and gloves for children and adults in need in Detroit, Michigan and other nearby underserved cities. Public collection occurs annually from 10/1 through 1/31.
Tens of thousands of donated pairs are processed by volunteers in The Big Sort, a series of team events where pairs are counted, sorted, and boxed up. The pairs are distributed by a network of about 100 schools, agencies, shelters, food pantries, veterans groups, and other organization that serve the homeless and transitional.
Since its founding in 2010, nearly one-quarter million pairs have been collected and distributed in Detroit, Hamtramck, Highland Park, and Dearborn.
The $1000 grant would be used to purchase pairs for kids in Grade 5-12, the size we receive the least of through the collections. The grant would purchase nearly 150 warm pairs.
