During the COVID-19 health crisis musical concerts and performances have been cancelled throughout the community. However, music and the arts are essential and listening to music can help alleviate stress and anxiety and help people stay connected. There are many people missing live performances right now but this health crisis has been especially hard on the elderly and those in senior living centers who have experienced loneliness and isolation. The Michigan Philharmonic has started giving mini-performances featuring duos of musicians from the orchestra who have been performing for seniors in nursing homes and retirements centers - performing in their parking lots, outdoor gardens and patios. This has been so well -received but we need help to continue these programs so we can continue to bring smiles while keeping music alive.
