Community Impact
Making the mitten a better place is kinda our thing.
When people feel seen, they thrive—and so do the communities around them. That’s why we are collectively investing in breaking down barriers, opening doors, and creating opportunities for everyone in Michigan. From financial education to local grants and partnerships, we’re building more than just better banking—we’re building a community where everyone has a place, a voice, and a path to a brighter, thriving future.
Michigan is known for hockey. But here’s something you might not know—none of our universities have a Division 1 women’s hockey program. We think it’s time that changed.

We believe that setting kids up with financial skills from the start is one of the strongest ways to build true, long-term economic prosperity in our communities. That’s why we hustle and grind to offer education programs that make learning about money fun, simple, and relevant—so our kids grow up confident, capable, and ready to take on the world.

Here are just a few of the ways we made a collective difference across Michigan last year. Grab our 2024 Impact Report for the full story!
We championed Roof the Block, a partnership with Bargain Block’s Keith and Evan and Brilliant Detroit to replace roofs for long-time residents in Detroit’s Fitzgerald neighborhood. The foundation seeded the project with $50,000 in hopes of replacing 5 roofs. (A dream of Keith and Evan!) But through the power of partnership, our investment leveraged nearly $130k in additional cash and in-kind contributions resulting in 14 new roofs for these amazing neighbors!
During the Lions' season we ignited 30+ Impossible Dreams for football fans, including rewarding hardworking, beloved Lions' stadium workers with surprise $1000 High Yield Savings Accounts to help them spark their own Impossible Dreams.
We pledged to give one cent to local charities for every swipe of our enhanced debit cards. And our members delivered, with nearly 80% total card usage, making those single cents add up to an incredible grand total of $120,000 bucks. All going to great community causes thanks to y’all. Huzzah!
Last year, we introduced CloseEnuff™ cashflow boosting checking to help our members take back control of their cash. To make it happen, we eliminated balance transfer fees, cut required NSF fees to the minimum, and added a $50 overdraft protection buffer to help members preserve their hard-earned cash. And it worked! In its first year members saved an amazing $808,868 in fees. That’s Enuff savings to buy 306,389 gallons of farm-fresh Michigan milk!
