Community Financial Credit Union Summer of SharingWhySee

Community Financial Credit Union has been enhancing the lives of our members and our communities for over 65 years. The word “community” is not only in our name, but it is the core of what we do. We know that Community Financial would not exist without our members and the communities in which they live.

Strong business can only grow from a strong community that benefits everyone, which is why helping nonprofits, educational, and community groups* is a part of our culture. We believe these groups have a tremendous impact on the communities we serve and it’s both our responsibility and pleasure to support them. To help build stronger communities, we are reaching out to our neighbors and asking for your help.

"What GOOD could you do with $1,000?"

Which charity, community organization, or school group could use some extra funds? In total, we will be donating $60,000 this summer!  That's $1,000 a day every Monday – Friday from June 10, 2019 – August 30, 2019.

Our Summer of Sharing Program has concluded for 2019.

This summer we chose from over 290 stories submitted on this site and awarded (60) $1,000 grants to organizations in Michigan! Click the SEE tab to view the charities, community groups and school programs we were able to support this year.

Otsego County Food Pantry

Posted By: Madeline Fritz (June 3, 2019)
Otsego County Food Pantry is a non-profit organization that services an under-served segment of our community. The food pantry is totally run, and operated by volunteers. These volunteers represent the majority of our area churches, therefore reaching even further into the needs of our community. This past March we served 145 families, or 413 people, which is UP from March of 2018 by 13%! Stores Like Save a Lot and Meijers are no longer able to offer some their previous programs of support.
The Otsego County Food Pantry and the people we feed, would benefit greatly from this donation.

I have the pleasure of working the desk at United Way and helping the people that come in to use the food pantry. I also work in the food pantry with my church. It is the most fulfilling thing I get to do.

The Otsego County Food Pantry's mission statement is simple, "We Feed People". In order for us to carry out that mission we depend solely on donations of cash, food and volunteers.

A $1,000 donation could be used in a variety of ways such as providing 10 children with back packs of food to supplement weekend meals for one year or helping stock the shelves with food at our pantry which feed approximately 6,500 people annually.

Blessings in a Backpack-Livonia

Posted By: Denise Murray (June 1, 2019)
Blessings in a Backpack Livonia is an organization run by volunteers that provides weekend food to students in the Livonia Public Schools who face food insecurity. These are students who are eligible for free or reduced lunch. We currently serve over 500 students in 10 schools. Without the program, they may not be getting enough food on the weekend. Hunger prevents children from reaching their full potential. If children are hungry, it is difficult for them to learn. It is our hope that we make a difference in the lives of these children by helping them nutritionally on the weekend. A $1000 grant from the CFCU Summer of Sharing will help us to expand to an additional school and serve more students in the fall.
