Mittens for Detroit

With temperatures in the 80s-90s, it’s hard to think about wearing mittens and gloves. We know that cold weather will be here soon enough, and many hands will need warmth. Founded in 2010, Mittens for Detroit collects, purchases, and distributes 32,000 pairs each winter – more than ¼ million pairs to date. These pairs are distributed through a network of 75 organizations, schools, veterans’ groups, senior centers, shelters, homeless programs, and agencies that help kids, teens and adults in Detroit. Because of COVID-19, it will be very hard to meet this year’s goal – the Collection Partners aren’t able to commit to public collections because of health and safety reasons. MFD is doing a summer fundraising drive – the Summer of Glove - to replace its cancelled 10 Anniversary fundraisers and be able to purchase pairs.
