Seedlings Braille Books for Children
Posted By: Karen Smith (June 3, 2019)
For every 100 books a sighted child has, a blind child may have just 5.
That's because braille books are rare and usually expensive, often costing more than $100 for one book! How can a child learn to read with so few books? How can a child succeed in school - and in life - without knowing how to read?
Seventy percent of blind adults in the United States are unemployed or underemployed. But of the 30 percent who are working full-time, 9 out of 10 are fluent in braille. Literacy can mean the difference between poverty and prosperity for both blind and sighted individuals.
A $1,000 donation from Community Financial would allow Seedlings Braille Books for Children to produce and distribute 100 more FREE braille books to blind children, helping them to grow into literate, independent adults.
Thank you for your consideration!
