MSU Extension, Master Gardener Program, WIC Program

We have a small garden at the Wayne County Health Department building on VanBorn Rd. As the MSU Extension Master Gardener Coordinator for Wayne County, I'm responsible for this garden. The focus of the garden is to grow produce for clients of the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. Besides donating produce, we give tours of the garden, teaching WIC clients sound horticultural practices. Last year we donated 350 pounds of produce and in 2016 we donated 250 pounds to WIC clients.
The garden is also a learning environment for Extension Master Gardener Trainees who come and learn about raising vegetables.
Our program is in need of funds because our raised beds are started to show their age and need to be replaced. While replacing the beds, we will also be installing an irrigation system too.
Thanks for your consideration!
