WACC is the non-profit child abuse prevention agency designated by Michigan Children's Trust Fund to provide child abuse prevention programs in Washtenaw County. It is estimated that between 10,427 and 72,539 children in Michigan experience sexual abuse each year. We all know that child sexual abuse is a horrific act. What if we could prevent it? What if we could empower children so they would know what to do or be aware it's happening to them? We Care Elementary: Healthy Relationships Project was a pilot program WACC implemented starting this January designed to do just that. We have seen astounding results and received positive feedback from schools and they want more! We want to provide it! This program uses a developmentally appropriate trauma-informed approaches to teach elementary students about sexual abuse prevention. We Care focuses on building children's healthy relationship skills through various methods, and has highly experiential lessons.
