A special thank you to everyone that told us what good you could do with $1,000! Our 6th annual Summer of Sharing campaign received 366 wonderful stories about the great work being done by charities, community and education groups in the cities around us.  Community Financial is proud to have donated $1,000 to the sixty-five organizations shown below.  Thank you all for the work you do to enrich our communities!

Wayne Westland Do Unto Others

Posted By: Theresa Gutierrez (June 10, 2016)
In Michigan, after age 26, adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities can no longer attend public school. For these individuals and their families, finding a system that offers supportive programs can be challenging. I understand this personally as a sister of an individual with Down Syndrome. My brother, Peter Gutierrez, graduated from the Western Wayne Skill Center in 2004. He and many others found support through the Bailey Center in Westland until it closed its doors in 2012 due to budget cuts.

Founded in 2013, DUO strives to encourage hope, spread joy, and foster companionship throughout the metro Detroit special needs communities. DUO assists local special needs citizens who would otherwise struggle to gain access to outings and educational events such as theatrical workshops, family educational sessions, and volunteer outings at non-profit organizations. A $1,000 contribution would help provide DUO members access to skill-building and community integration activities.
