Summer of Sharing Campaign

Community Financial Credit Union has been enhancing the lives of our members and our communities for over 65 years. The word “community” is not only in our name, but it is the core of what we do. We know that Community Financial would not exist without our members and the communities in which they live.

Strong business can only grow from a strong community that benefits everyone, which is why helping nonprofits, educational, and community groups is a part of our culture. We believe these groups have a tremendous impact on the communities we serve and it’s both our responsibility and pleasure to support them. We are committed to the communities where we do business and have devoted both time and money to help them succeed. Partnerships with local school districts, The Salvation Army, United Way and American Cancer Society are just a few of the ways we are making a difference.

To help build stronger communities, we are reaching out to our neighbors and asking for your help. Think about it.

What GOOD could you do with $1,000?
What charity, community group or school group could use some extra funds?

Our Summer of Sharing Program has concluded for 2017.

This year we celebrated summer by choosing from the 262 stories submitted on this site and awarded 60 - $1,000 grants to organizations in Michigan*. Click the See button to view the charities, community groups and school programs we were able to support this year.

Lightning Robotics Team 862 has been helping students for 18 years find there place in high school, preparing them for College, helping them become leaders, and showing them there is nothing you can't accomplish in life if you work hard. As a professional educator, Iíve witnessed firsthand the importance of Lightning Robotics in a students life.Lightning Robotics plays a vital role in modeling students and enriching their lives. Lightning Robotics is a tool for personal expression, it is a way for students to grow educationally, emotionally and challenge their perceptions of society. Lightning Robotics will inspire, and expand students ability to be leaders and positive contributors to the community. Each generation has its own unique set of challenges, but it is through Lightning Robotics that students learn compassion, understanding and critical thinking skills that enable them to address problems and find solutions.

Lightning Robotics is more than a program that helps kids get interested in business and engineering. It is more than what it seems on the outside. Lightning Robotics is a family where I can confidently say I have life long friends that I will never forget. They have taught me to persevere through any problem I have and that winning a competition is not everything it is the journey we took to get to that point. Lightning Robotics works with young kids and the community to get people interested in not just engineering, but also strategy and business with our marketing, awards, and strategy groups. I have only been on the team for a short time compared to many, but the team brings you in and it is an experience that I will never forget and hope that many will follow and fall in love with the team as I did.

Lightning Robotics has given me so many opportunities that other clubs and sports dont get. I have also gotten many new skills, such as public speaking, working with power tools, collaboration (even in times of hardship), and meeting many new people. The friends ive made have become some of my best friends. my short time on the team had impacted me in many ways, and many more to come.

Bird Elememtary Green Run

Posted By: Catherine Williams (June 27, 2017)
For the past two years students have led a green run initiative to raise funds for a paved walking/running path for the Bird Elementary School playground. These students believe that healthy habits create healthy minds for learning and taking care of their community (recycling). The students vision was this path would build community among current students but also many students to come in the future. This paved path would also support important programs that partner with the school for running character education programs. Our annual green run involves students being active and having fun as they secure sponsors to pledge their run. Grade levels go out to exercise, warm up, and run together throughout the day. The team anticipates one more year needed to raise funds for the path. Afterwards, the green run will continue to give back to other charities in our community.

Lovells Township Historical Society

Posted By: Carol Britton (June 27, 2017)
The community of Lovells came together in 1990 to save the 90 year old one room Log School House and had it moved to the Township property and restored it. It now houses the history of Lovells and the founding fathers. As Docent for over 8 years I have met and helped many of these families and new residents find the history of the families and the property they live on. Lovells is quite proud of the Museum they helped preserve and it continues today to provide educational opportunities to the community and for visitors from near and far. We have had visitors from Japan, Switzerland, Germany, and from every state in the Union. Yearly we provide two $1000.00 dollar scholarships to Crawford County Students attending Kirkland College. This scholarship is funded by activities we sponsor throughout the year. Your $1000. would provide one Scholarship.
