A Message on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion from Bill Lawton, President & CEO
Community Financial Credit Union was founded on the promise of “People Helping People.” We work together as a diverse group of team members to help strengthen the financial health of our members and make our communities better places to live and work.
As Community Financial’s President and CEO, it’s my responsibility to support our team by creating an environment where people of all backgrounds, races, ages, sexual orientations, and abilities can collaborate, learn from each other and thrive.
I am incredibly proud to be leading our team and I am committed to ensuring that Community Financial is a welcoming, safe place to bank and to work for everyone. Recent events have also elevated the importance of achieving meaningful change in areas of diversity, equity and inclusion.
With our country’s history of slavery, oppression, segregation, housing discrimination and prejudice, the deck has been and continues to be stacked against Black people in ways that it is impossible for me to fully comprehend.
Progress will come from the willingness of those who are oppressed to speak to their experience, combined with the willingness of all of us to listen, reflect, learn and take the actions necessary to make our credit union, communities, and world a better place. We need these actions to go beyond the credit union walls into our communities.
Diversity, inclusion and equality are important to me for many reasons. Having a workforce that thoughtfully reflects and embraces these values not only brings forth innovative ideas, it encourages our workforce to grow and thrive. We want our members to see diversity, not just with our front-line team members, but in our leadership and board as well.
