Student-Run Credit Unions Teach Students to Save

Community Financial is gearing up for the 2009-10 school year and our partnership with Michigan schools districts. We will be operating 30 school credit unions and expose thousands of students to money management skills. Selected students will learn the banking business as credit union tellers, branch managers, marketing reps, computer operators and bookkeepers.

Our in-school credit unions are student-run and members can transact on their live accounts thoughout the year.

We are excited to fill our vision of teaching students the importance of saving in elementary school, providing a way to grow those savings in middle school and then offering access to their savings and checking accounts in high school. This program truly prepares students for the “real world.” - Bill Lawton, President/CEO
